The Silicon Awards are the reference awards for the IT and tech worlds. The SDRA pps project was selected by a panel of influential experts in the field of new technologies.
SDRA pps is an application to help doctors in intensive care to facilitate the management of patients with lung infections (SDRA). This is the most serious form of Covid-19. The application therefore benefits all Covid-19 patients hospitalised in intensive care. Hailed by the profession with more than 5,000 professionals using it, this application was developed by the Talan teams in collaboration with resuscitators from the Amiens-Picardie university hospital.
This project is the result of several observations related to the COVID-19 pandemic, where the number of patients hospitalized in intensive care and presenting with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has greatly increased. Scientific studies have shown that in 30% of cases and outside the COVID period, the adjustment of the fan of ARDS patients did not comply with the recommendations of learned societies (this may be responsible for an increase in mortality). However, ARDS is a common disease with significant mortality.
For example, the Talan teams in Hauts-de-France have contributed their expertise to carry out the resuscitation doctors project at the Amiens-Picardie university hospital in order to substantially reduce mortality. Sarah Louvet, Director of the agency of Amiens, specialized in the development of digital applications, proposed a rapid response adapted to the context and the sharing of medical knowledge for the benefit of all.
The app can be downloaded free of charge from a smartphone or tablet and optimises respirator settings. It improves the oxygenation of patients and therefore reduces the excess mortality of patients. The assessment of ventilation mechanics is facilitated through 20 tools and various automated calculations. The results of these calculations make it possible to customise the ventilation of patients in ARDS. They are based on the recommendations formalised by the experts from the main reference organisations as well as on the analysis of the scientific literature.
The SDRA pps application contributes to better patient monitoring by automatically generating a summary sheet of respiratory parameters for the patient's file. It is also an educational tool since it includes 25 explanatory sheets with a rich bibliography. Until now, no such device existed. This is a major advance given the explosion in the number of respirators available in hospitals in France since the spread of Covid-19.
This application is both easy to use, free of charge and accessible to all healthcare professionals. After one month of availability, 5,000 professionals in 60 countries, including 3,500 users in France, used it for the benefit of patients.
